CHASING WATERFALLS IN NORTH AMERICA

If you are here, you must be a waterfall chaser like I am. Water is essential to life and just being near it, is known to harness the power to heal and soothe the mind. It’s no wonder people are instinctively drawn to beaches, lakes and waterfalls. Let’s not waste time with small talk, let’s jump right in! :)

We’ll start with the biggest waterfalls in each of the 3 countries.

United States: While Niagara Falls in New York (& Canada) is the biggest and most powerful waterfall by volume, Olo'upena Falls on Molokai Hawaii, is the tallest waterfall at 2953 feet tall.

Canada: Della Falls in B.C. is the tallest waterfall in Canada, with its 1445 foot (440 meters) vertical drop. Same as the U.S.A., Niagara is also the most power waterfall in Canada, bordering on Ontario and N.Y.

Mexico: Basaseachi Falls, inside the National Park of Basaseachi, is said to be the tallest waterfall in Mexico, with a drop of 246 meters (807 feet). Piedra Volada, another waterfall in the same canyon, is technically taller, but because it doesn't have water year around it doesn’t get the title.

The most famous/notable in each country

USA: I am sure it comes as no surprise to hear that Niagara falls in N.Y. is the most famous and noteworthy waterfall in the United States.

Canada: Not to sound like a broken record, Niagara Falls is also the most famous waterfall in Canada. Probably no surprise since it is split between the two countries.

Mexico: Agua Azul is the most visited and easily one of the prettiest waterfalls in Mexico. Located in Chiapas, almost on the border with Yucatan Peninsula.

The most underrated waterfalls

USA:

This is a tough one but I am going to say it’s Shoshone falls in Idaho.

Canada: Nailicho (Virginia Falls) is located in the Nahanni National Park Reserve, NWT, it is 96 m (315 feet) tall and 259 m (850 feet) wide. The water cascades down and around Mason's Rock.

Mexico: Tamul Waterfall, on the Gallinas River in the northern area of the municipality of Aquismón, in the Huasteca Potosina.

I know the “most underrated” waterfall is subjective and it was honestly hard for me to choose, since I haven’t been to every waterfall in North America but those were my votes based upon what I know. :) Which one would YOU choose? Let us know in the comments, I’m sure many of us would love to check them out. :)

I know I definitely want to visit each one of these waterfalls in my lifetime! Maybe I will turn some of these adventures into group trips! :D Thoughts?
