THE BEST PET TRACKING OPTIONS AVAILABLE

HI FRIENDS!!!

With Black Friday sales starting now and even more sales hitting right around the corner, I wanted to share all of our favorite pet tracking options so you never have to worry about losing your furry family members. This post is actually also mostly inspired by all of the posts that I see on Facebook groups that I am a part of, of people CONSTANTLY posting and sharing about lost dogs.

So today, I am sharing a WIDE variety of options; from real time trackers with and without subscription options to super detailed dog tags. Side note before we start, I’d like to add that I am a big advocate of breakaway collars for both cats and dogs. Cats aren’t the only animals prone to collar strangulation.

Let’s start from the most basic form of identification, the miscrochip. This option does not track your pet in real time, nor is it accessible by the general public BUT if your dog or cat is found and taken to a veterinary clinic or animal control/shelter, they can scan him'/her for a microchip to help reunite you with your pet. This is all assuming that your microchip isn’t faulty or hasn’t migrated AND that you keep you information up to date. For these reasons, I always recommend a second form of identification.

Next, let’s go to tags.

I like and use BYTETAG’S because they are kind of a step up from regular ole dog tags. Not only do they have the traditional typed information right on the tag, they also have a scannable QR code which allows you to include A LOT of pertinent information regarding your pet that is accessible by ANYONE, using that scannable QR code. You can also easily update it at ANY time right from the app on your phone and can be used by iphones or androids. I also love that they have slide on options, as well as the traditional dangling options. I prefer the slide on options pictured below (I blurred out my QR codes, so random people on the internet can’t find where I live).

Next up are trackers.

AIRTAG: The most basic option and one that does not have a monthly subscription is an airtag. I had these for my pets when I first started using trackers but have since “upgraded” to the options I will be sharing next because I do enjoy all of the added features that they provide. This is an excellent option for those who do not want to or can not afford to pay a monthly fee. Which to be honest, is likely going to be me in the very near future because of the state of our economy and life circumstances. The only downside of these is they are not compatible with androids.

TRACTIVE: This is what I use for my cats and my rottweiler. I chose these over the brand that follows for these guys because they offer cat specific options, as well as giant heavy duty options for big breeds like Rottweilers. I love that it not only lets you track your pets location in real time, it also lets you create virtual fences and gives you “escape alerts”. It also lets you track things like activity and sleep to give you a heads up if health and wellness changes and there might be something wrong with your beloved fur baby. Plans vary in price depending on if you purchase the month to month plan or pre-pay for 1 to 2 years in advance. The monthly plan costs $15/month. As I mentioned before, the 1 and 2 year plans have to be prepaid in advance and those run $108/1 year (breaks down to $9/month) for 1 year and $144/2 years (breaks down to $6/month).

FI: This is what I sue for my Frenchies and my little rescue pup. I honestly should have opted for the Tractive option for everyone, to make my life easier but I heard about FI first so I went with it when I first started buying real time activity trackers. They is absolutely NOTHING wrong with this brand and I highly recommend them BUT for me, I don’t particularly like having two apps to track my animals; I would prefer just one app (to save space on my phone) and FI does not offer cat trackers, so if I had to choose just one, it would be Tractive. I will say that the battery on FI does last longer than the battery on Tracktive, that’s the one thing I do prefer about FI. FI is also more expensive, let’s get into the pricing. You can choose to pay monthly for $19/month or prepay for 6 months, 1 year or 2 years and the prices are $99/6 months, $189/1 year or $339/2 years.
