5 PET FRIENDLY HIKES IN MENDOCINO COUNTY

DON’T MISS THESE HIKES!

It’s no secret that northern California and Mendocino are a couple of my favorite regions in all of the United States. I wanted to share a few spectacular hikes that you can take your fur babies on in the Mendocino area. Let me know if you decide to check them out or if I missed one of your favs! :)

1) North, East, Falls, and North Boundary Loop

Located inside of Russian Gulch State Park, this hike does have a parking fee associated with it. https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=432

Lush forests and a beautiful waterfall are some of the highlights of this amazing hike. Bring plenty of water and be aware of potential wildlife sightings.

Distance: 5.9 miles

Elevation Gain: 856 feet

Trail Type: Loop

Intensity Level: Moderate

2) Forest History Trail to Cookhouse Trail Loop

This trail is popular for birding and hiking. The best time to visit is February thru November. The trails are marked well but there is limited reception, so download the trail map ahead of time. Plenty of shade and beautiful trees.

Distance: 3.2 miles

Elevation Gain: 780 feet

Trail Type: Loop

Intensity Level: Moderate

3) Mendocino Headlands Trail

This coastal trail takes you along the bluffs. Bring water and a hat and even consider going thru town for a meal rather than heading back the way you came.

Distance: 4.8 miles

Elevation Gain: 134 feet

Trail Type: Out & Back

Intensity Level: Easy

4) Mendocino Cliffs Trail

Located in Mendocino headlands state park, this trail takes you along cliffs, the beach and even tide pools! Make sure to check the tide charts if you’re interested in tide pooling.

Distance: 0.9 miles

Elevation Gain: 62 feet

Trail Type: Loop

Intensity Level: Easy

5) Greenwood State Beach

This very secluded trail is great for birdwatching and is open year round. With opportunities to see wildlife in the Pacific Ocean, it’s worth a visit.

Distance: 1.2 miles

Elevation Gain: 127 feet

Trail Type: Loop

Intensity Level: Easy
